Land Cruiser Club - Southern Africa

B&B at Die Bosvelder on Friday 4 February 2011

Martiens Booysen posted the invitation originally and the time was set for 3pm. Later (much later in fact) this time was changed to 12 noon.

We arrived at the gate and were duly told to go and park somewhere else. The man did not appear to like the look of us (understandable I suppose) as others were allowed to enter as we watched. We saw some of the already arrived revelers and I went in and said we were leaving as there was no parking. The revelers told me that I had a sight deficiency and pointed to an open space. I returned to the car which Sylvia was steering and commanded something voort! The gentleman (this term is used with extreme sarcasm - which is highly unusual for me) began waiving his arms as Sylvia proceeded forward and into the slot. The aforesaid just described, just described with sarcasm one, proceeded to place a tape across the path we had just entered and then scowled at me. This was certainly going to result in absolutely no tip later however much Sylvia might protest.

The waiters identified us by name as our tabs climbed. This arrangement worked very well. One of the pictures below shows someone examining the tab with great care, which can be extremely complex after a few drinks let me tell you!

Many new faces arrived in addition to a few I recognised and even fewer that I could identify by name. Because of this lack of identification information in some (many) cases, I have just put numbers under the names which I will replace when I receive the information. This will also let me know how many people ever look at this stuff I post. I have not yet described any of the scenes, of which there are few, as I am waiting for comments - if any.

Hereunder, provided the page loads, and provided you are interested, and provided the page loads fast enough and you do not have to reload too many times to get all the images to appear - are the snaps:-

I have received inspirational information from Hennie Kotze regarding the missing identities - "'n Klom lelike ou biksems!".

Thank you to Roland Bergh, Hennie Jackson, Francois Muller, Karel vd Merwe, Jaco Fourie and Terence Doyle for the information you provided.

32 A noisy vehicle has arrived and the crowd begins to gather.

33 If a queue forms it is likely others will follow shortly.

34 From a photographers desire for a group photograph it is unlikely that the crowd will grow much larger so the aim is to try and attract attention and then press the shutter fast.

37 (This is very much a boy thing - and if you were to do some detailed research you might be surprised to find out that practically everyone peering at the machinery has almost no idea what they are looking at. This could be one of the reasons for the glazed far away looks.)

Herrie Botha was there but in my incompetence I missed him and I apologise for that.

We think a great time was had by all - the expressions confirm that in many cases.

(If you have got this far, and are interested, it is possible to enlarge the pictures. I have not posted the pictures so by just clicking on them they enlarge as that takes time. All you need to do is right click on any image and chose "View Image Info" in Mozilla Firefox and the image address will be displayed. Then copy and paste this to your browser and change "/s288/" to "/s720/" (without the inverted commas (") and reload the image when it will enlarge.)
